Working with printed tin is just plain a whole lot of fun! I don't know why I am so drawn to the medium, but it inspires me like no other. I use it to transform printed tin containers of all shapes and sizes into mobiles, jewelry, art dolls, clocks, tin clothing and most recently, whimsical, colorful birds and fish. Examples of the containers I use are olive oil, soy sauce, cookie, spice, tuna, coffee, tea, espresso, sardine, anchovy, tobacco, biscuit, mustard, curry, ethnic food, popcorn and sewing tins. I cut the tins into many shapes and then flatten and assemble them. When I'm not hammering tin, I have been the full-time digital image and slide librarian at Montserrat College of Art for the last 13 years. I studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford, Montserrat College of Art, the DeCordova Musuem and Sculpture Park, and Metalwerx. My work has been exhibited in New England and is included in public buildings, schools, private collections and galleries. From June, 2009 to June, 2010, a large piece, titled 'Flock' will be installed at the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, MA. Tin Can Sally is my pseudonym. I am also sometimes known as Sally Seamans. My work can be seen at Local Colors Artist's Cooperative, 121 Main St., Gloucester, MA, 01930.
